Samsung's 'Now Bar' brings interactive lock-screen notifications to the Galaxy S24

Samsung has released the public beta of One UI 7, the newest version of their modified Android interface. Upgrades have been made to improve interactions and enhance the design. On Samsung phones, One UI runs on top of Android, and you'll mostly interface with it via the lock screen, notifications, and the camera app.

The beta version is now available for Galaxy S24 smartphones in Germany, India, Korea, Poland, the UK, and the US. To sign up, utilize the Samsung Members app. Be warned: beta software is not the final version; therefore, it may not operate perfectly—use it at your own discretion.

One UI 7 improves Galaxy AI, Samsung's suite of AI technologies. New sophisticated writing assist capabilities complement previous Galaxy AI features such as summaries and note organisation into bullet points. Call transcripts are integrated into One UI 7 and support 20 languages. If call recording is enabled, the recordings are automatically transcribed.

The home screen, One UI widgets, and fast settings tray have all been slightly redesigned. Notably, the lock screen now features a new section called the Now Bar. It looks like a widget and displays interactive alerts at the bottom of the screen, such as the remaining time on a timer, music player controls, and voice recording controls. It is available without unlocking your phone.

One UI 7 also includes new controls for the camera app. In earlier versions, selecting "More" in the camera app opened a full-screen menu that obscured anything in the viewfinder below it. The new version positions the menu at the bottom of the screen in a self-contained, semi-transparent box, leaving more of the topic visible. Camera and Pro mode-specific controls are also placed closer to the shutter button, while the viewfinder size is increased.

If utilising a beta on your handset is not for you, the final One UI 7 is set to be launched in the first quarter of 2025 alongside the next Galaxy S lineup. It will eventually be available on additional Galaxy smartphones.
